Biotechnology

This is a two year program designed to provide advanced science preparation for high school students planning on pursuing a college major in a science related field of study. Biotechnology is the physical manipulation of organisms at the molecular level to improve the quality of life. In this high school only program, students will learn foundational scientific knowledge, gain laboratory skills, and participate in authentic research. This college preparatory program develops competencies useful for medical, pharmaceutical, agricultural, and other science based areas of study.

Messages from Mrs. Phillips:

About working at PTC… I absolutely love the “light bulb” moments when concepts “click” and I see a student’s eyes light up. I love doing hands-on labs and the critical thinking skills associated with the success and failures of learning by doing. I believe that being a teacher is a calling not only for education purposes but also for being a part of the village that helps raise kids.

To prospective students… Our primary focus with this program is to build excellent foundations and prepare our students for science-related futures in college which can lead to well-paying careers. The equipment and technology PTC provides for the Biotech class is unbelievable for high school students. I feel very fortunate to teach in an atmosphere that is able to provide the consumables and equipment students require to do in-depth research and science labs. The skills learned through this program enhances a student’s ability to walk into any lab class on a college campus and thrive.
